Sage Patanjali has famously defined Yoga as Chitta Vritti Nirodh, or “the complete inhibition, or cessation, of the modifications of Chitta.” Chitta is diffuse, or impure, consciousness that identifies itself with material phenomenon. This causes the mind to become defiled by impure vibrations. These impurities are the “modifications” of consciousness that cause the "fall" of man from the pure consciousness.[3][3]
In order to experience the state of eternal bliss, man’s conscious self must merge into the Divine, “super-conscious” Self. That transcendent Self, or Soul, is beyond all forms and names, beyond the cycles of birth and death, beyond time and space, and beyond even the concepts of bondage and release.
The definition for Satsang provided by Wikepedia will shed some light as to the meaning of Satsang:
“Satsang (Sanskrit sat = true, sanga = company) is in Indian philosophy (1) the company of the "highest truth," (2) the company of a guru, or (3) company with an assembly of persons who listen to, talk about, and assimilate the truth....”
Having provided some explanation of the meaning of Yoga and Satsang, it now remains to describe what the sessions of Yoga and Satsang at the Lakulish Yoga and Health Retreat will consist of.
